Inspiration

These partner-supplied examples from  earlier Findmypast campaigns helped guide the creative direction of my banner designs. They illustrate how striking typography, historical imagery, and bold colour contrast can be used to capture attention effectively. The examples also emphasise clear visual hierarchy, strong brand consistency, and prominent calls-to-action, all of which influenced the structure and styling when it came to designing my own display banners.

Ideas / Challenges

I developed a range of display banners that adopted a consistent visual style while supporting different campaign objectives, all centred around highlighting the theme of Family Stories. The yellow banners were designed to drive awareness, focusing on promoting the free trial offer through brighter tones and more emotive imagery to capture attention. The blue banners were created to support conversion, promoting the full service package with a more direct and informative approach. Across both variations, I incorporated key design elements inspired by the earlier examples.

While this direction was positively received by the partner, they later chose to explore an alternative stylistic route, shifting towards imagery that felt more relatable in terms of a more recent time period.

OutcomesOutcomes

Following partner feedback, the creative direction evolved to focus on imagery that felt more relatable in time period, with a stronger emphasis on authentic family stories. These final banner outcomes reflect that shift, featuring candid, film-style photography that captures everyday family moments.

I drew inspiration from photo books and scrapbook-style collages that were particularly prominent throughout the 1970s and 1980s. This influence helped shape the composition and image treatment, introducing layered visuals, warmer tones, and a slightly imperfect photographic quality to enhance authenticity. The use of nostalgic, film-inspired imagery helped create an emotional connection with audiences while reinforcing the campaign’s storytelling focus and aligning closely with the partner’s revised creative vision.
